Angela joins the crew. Sailing to Lohusalu

Aino learned to know Angela when she was working in the same organisation for about a year. They had been talking about sailing and Angela became interested. We had been thinking about sailing to the Estonian coast sometimes, but the idea of sailing in Estonia, not just visiting, became more interesting as we would have an own pilot and interpreter…

Angela would be able to join us on Saturday, 27 July, which became the date to be in Tallinn, weather permitting. And it did!

We had a lazy and pleasant breakfast outside, waiting for Angela who should arrive around 10 AM. The weather just couldn’t be better! Angela should also bring the rest of the charts, Eesti Merekaardid, parts 2 and 3. The part 1 was already available in Finland, the two others needed editing, and would be published later.

I waited for Angela outside the Estonian Maritime Museum which is supposed to be the most popular museum in the country. We had visited it a few years earlier. It is a highly recommendable place to see. We didn’t have time to look at this exposition.

Angela came, brought the charts, beers, white wine, kohuke (a sweet snack made from curd cheese), and above all, her joyful personality. We presented her Ofelia and gave her Saga’s usual place, the saloon berth. Saga had to move to the somewhat claustrophobic port side quarter berth. After fitting the life vest for Angela – obligatory aboard Ofelia – we were ready to go. We left at 11.30, hoisted the sails outside Tallinn harbour, and sailed slowly towards Lohusalu.

During the afternoon the wind went down to zero and we had to motor some time before the wind picked up again. We arrived at Lohusalu at 17.30, having sailed about 22 NM. Angela called the marina sometime before our arrival and we got a berth with the help of the harbor master, who was already waiting for us at the breakwater.

Outdoor concert, featuring Marko Matvere and Väikeste Lõõtspillide Ühing (VLÜ)

The showers and other facilities at the harbor were excellent, and we went to bed listening to the music above. There is an outdoor concert place just outside the marina.
