We woke up already at 10 AM, filled the diesel tank at the local petrol station on our way out and left Dirhami at 12.20 towards Haapsalu, about 20 NM away. Because the supply batteries were empty, we decided to motor first to charge the batteries. The idea was to hoist the sails later, but when entering the narrow fairway to Haapsalu, we decided to motor all the way, especially when the supply batteries still had an alarmingly low voltage. The weather was sunny, 20 °C, and 7 m/s NNE wind.
We arrived at Haapsalu Westmeri marina at 16.07 and went to the fancy looking marina bar to have a beer or something. There seems to be an Estonian habit (?) to bring all the customers first a drinks menu without asking directly what the customers might want. From my, a random customer’s point of view, it is a waste of cash flow: I could immediately tell I need a beer and might have another one, if I would not need to wait for my first one for so long.
After the beer or some fancier drinks the crew went to a food store while I finished some wood work in the boat. In June I needed to repair the companionway stairs but I never finished the work; some battens needed to be fastened. Nobody would probably even notice the difference but we got rid of the loose pieces of wood among the other stuff in the SB quarter berth/storage area.
I had also a good time to write the log book while the others were away. Believe or not, the same log book and pencil is next to me right now, although I am 926 NM and 226° from the boat at the moment. Should I get a glass of rosé, too?
The crew had seen some nice looking places to eat, when shopping. We chose the Hapsal Dietrich, which was quite packed. Somehow we managed to get a table and ate well, except Saga, who had only one dish while the rest of us had two. Here is my appetizer, some local goodies.
On the way back to the marina we walked through the dark castle area. The town is picturesque, well worth visiting another time, even by car.
